Hi Patrick,

during the day the best option is strobe flashing level 5. At night solid (level 1-3) beam is the better for the other road user... In my opinion the flashing disoriented.

PS: I use sports tracker (android)

Surly strobe flashing level 5 is very best option to go with.

Just wanted to chime in here and add some useful info to this thread....

The answer totally depends on the surrounding ambient light conditions.
If you're riding in the daytime with bright conditions and ESPECIALLY if you're riding through broken shadow conditions (i.e. a row of trees to the side of the road with shadow and full sun interspersed together), then you absolutely want to use the full power available with the highest contrast flash mode. This would be the "EMS" flash mode (EMS because I borrowed the pattern from a typical ambulance sequence).

If you're riding in heavy overcast, lower light daytime conditions, you might want to use the standard ON/OFF flash on level 5 or potentially level 3.

If riding during dawn/dusk hours, you could use one of the last three flash patterns, "lightening flash," "triple pulse (new)," or "toggle."

At night you really should stick to steady modes (level 1 or 2), OR you can use the last two flash modes, "triple pulse," or "toggle."

Under no circumstances should you use an on/off level 3 or higher pattern at night. The visual effect on overtaking drivers can be absolutely crippling and downright dangerous.

Safe riding!
