Hi Stephen,

i am so happy with your great tail light, but is a other strobe mode possible? I want more quickly or other type (the flash mode @ Level 5). Like emergency lights...

Like the youtube video:

Hey Bjoern,

Yes, absolutely. You have a lot of options when it comes to programming the flash modes.

The first thing you'll want to do is watch this video on how to put the light into programming mode (also known as "menu" mode):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnLETdcZMQQ

Next you'll want to download the MaxFlex user's manual. At first you will be OVERWHELMED by the amount of details in this document, but don't worry, you'll only need to be concerned with one section, and that would be section 8.14 (page 27), entitled, "Fourteen clicks - Configure Strobe Mode."

Believe it or not, there is also a GERMAN VERSION of the User's manual (http://www.taskled.com/leds/maxflexuni3_german_v1.0.pdf).

You can find the web page with all the links to the Maxflex manuals at http://www.taskled.com/techmaxflex.shtml

Before you start, make sure that you know the difference between a "PRESS" and a "CLICK"
The basic process goes like this:
1. Enter programming (or menu) mode
2. Select menu item 14
3. Select the placeholder (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6) of the flash mode that you would like to modify.
4. Select the intensity level for the "low" strobe(options are "OFF", or power levels 1 through 4).
5. Set the duration of the low strobe.
6. Select the intensity level for the "high" strobe (power level 2 through 5, "OFF" is NOT an option).
7. Set the duration of the high strobe.
8. Set the number of High/Low burst repeats

As an example, consider the current flash mode #3 (what I call EMS mode).
The timing parameters look like this:

Low strobe = "OFF"
Low duration = 410 ms or equivalently 41 clicks (10 ms per click)
High strobe = Level 5
High duration = 90 ms or equivalently 9 clicks
Repeat = 4

You might be able to achieve something close to what you are looking for by simply modifying flash mode #3.
You will have to set the Low and High levels, but you will have the option to leave the low duration "as-is." In other words, you won't have to click 41 times.

You might try setting the high duration to 20ms and the repeat to 10. BE WARNED, however, this will produce an extremely STUNNING effect, so be very careful.

Don't worry if you accidentally mess up and would like to get the original flash modes back. You can always re-set the factory defaults using menu item 10.
However if you do this, you will also need to re-set the voltage status detection limits (menu items 6, 7 and 8) to work with the 7.4V standard instead of the default 11.1V.

Let me know if you need any help.

You are ---> GOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THX SO MUCH <3 You are a great engineer!

I make a video with my new modes ! Crazy hardcore strobe:eek:

PS: The german user manual is great and easy... Good job!

The german user manual was so easy to understand. But its the same what you wrote.

So easy and fast to change. Unbelievable;)

Here are my 6 new modes:

#1 Ultra flashing (strobe) ---> DAY

Low strobe = "LV1"
Low duration = 80 ms or equivalently 8 clicks
High strobe = "LV5"
High duration = 80 ms or equivalently 8 clicks
Repeat = 2

@ Stephen: Test it. Its hardcore and destroy your eyes!!! @#$& DRIVERS :p

#2 ultra high speed flashing (strobe) ---> DAY

Low strobe = "LV1"
Low duration = 30 ms or equivalently 3 clicks
High strobe = "LV5"
High duration = 30 ms or equivalently 3 clicks
Repeat = 2

@ Stephen: Test it. Its hardcore and destroy your eyes;)

#3 single strobe for min. brightness ---> NIGHT

Low strobe = "LV1"
Low duration = 490 ms or equivalently 49 clicks
High strobe = "LV2"
High duration = 60 ms or equivalently 6 clicks
Repeat = 3

#4 single strobe for max. brightness ---> DAY

Low strobe = "LV1"
Low duration = 490 ms or equivalently 49 clicks
High strobe = "LV5"
High duration = 60 ms or equivalently 6 clicks
Repeat = 3

#5 slowest blink mode ever for for min. brightness ---> NIGHT

Low strobe = "LV1"
Low duration = 490 ms or equivalently 49 clicks
High strobe = "LV2"
High duration = 490 ms or equivalently 49 clicks
Repeat = 2

#6 slowest blink mode ever for max. brightness ---> DAY

Low strobe = "LV1"
Low duration = 490 ms or equivalently 49 clicks
High strobe = "LV5"
High duration = 490 ms or equivalently 49 clicks
Repeat = 2

Good stuff! Glad to know that you found the flash mode programming easy to accomplish. It's a nice feature to be able to experiment with different patterns. Thanks for sharing your setup.
Later on

Hi Stephen,

today i changed some settings. Currently i use the UIB2 mod with dual mod. I didnt need the 5 levels. Level 1 and level 5 are enough... And a change is faster and easier during the drive. But it was hard work to understand the manual. :(

Greetings from Germany.

PS: Lupine works on a new taillight. But a small one for 77 €. I will buy the lupine betty R 14 (2014) with real 4500 lumens.
