Got my new silicon o-rings a few days ago! Who knew that I could get so excited about an O-ring. After countless hours of scouring the internet and coming up empty, then talking to US-based O-ring manufacturers, who would be more than happy to do a custom mold for me for $500 (egad), I finally found an oversees suppler that I felt confident enough to do business with who actually had them in stock as a standard piece. I didn't feel too bad about farming this piece out... it is just an o-ring ...
Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving! Still making good progress toward the new build and learning lots of good stuff along the way. I've been trying to get the machining process a little more lean and mean, and as it turns out, it's quite expensive to CNC a lot of thin slots in a piece of aluminum. Larger milling, drilling and tapping, however is more economical. It appears the best approach may be to do a combination of CNC followed by more traditional machining for the slots ...
Received new samples today for the XP-E side of the light. With the higher lumen count comes a slightly higher color temperature. Still just a bit warmer than the XP-G, but slightly cooler than the old XP-E. I plan on looking at it in a variety of settings to see how I like it, but tonight I did take a few beam shots to highlight the change. I also put together the double-triple XP-E. This would be an option for those wanting a super efficient helmet light with great throw. 5 ...
Good news and bad news today... Good news is I've got all the components except for the housings and lens cover lined up for this month. Batteries, chargers, cables, electronics, mounts, assembly materials, etc. Bad news is that I found out today that it'll be 4 to 5 weeks before the shop can have the lens covers finished. Now, fortunately, the last step in the process is to literally screw this part on, so it shouldn't add too much delay, but it's definitely not going to ...
Happy Veteran's Day! What a privilege and gift it is to live in this country. We are forever indebted to the brave veterans who sacrificed to make it possible. Making good progress on assembling on the parts for the lights. Believe it or not, the silicon O-ring that I wanted to switch to for sealing the lenses in the removable cover did not exist as a standard part in this country!!! Custom molding was going to cost an arm and a leg, so I was very excited to finally find an overseas ...
